Replacement is not our default response when an older unit develops a fault. We first check whether its performance can reasonably be improved, then compare the likely repair cost with its age, condition, output, repair history and the state of the wider system.
For example, a repair of around $1,500 on a ten-year-old unit may be difficult to justify when replacement costs roughly $2,500. These figures illustrate how the decision may be assessed and are not fixed prices. An inspection and quote will establish whether further spending on the existing system makes sense. A heat pump upgrade should suit your home as it is now rather than simply copying the old unit’s capacity or format. During the site visit, our heat-load calculation considers room size, window area, glazing type, insulation, property age, sun exposure and whether the system will provide heating, cooling or both.
If the existing high-wall position and coverage still suit the space, a straightforward one-for-one replacement may be appropriate. If your needs have changed, we can consider a different format or level of coverage. A high-wall unit is primarily suited to a defined area, while ducted heat pump systems can provide zoned whole-home comfort where the property, available space and budget make this practical.
What a complete heat pump changeover covers
Replacement normally means changing both the indoor and outdoor units instead of modifying an ageing system one component at a time. Many projects are straightforward one-for-one changeovers, while others need a different solution following a site assessment.

Brands, warranty and care after your heat pump upgrade
Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin are our principal replacement brands. Both provide an applicable five-year manufacturer’s warranty, subject to the relevant terms and installation requirements. Newer systems can provide quieter operation, improved energy efficiency and more consistent performance than ageing equipment, although running-cost savings depend on sizing, building performance, settings, use and the system being replaced.
