Bring fresh outdoor air into your home without losing useful warmth
Fresh air matters even when your home is already warm. In well-sealed, newer or double-glazed homes, closed windows can leave the air stale and trap moisture. A heat pump primarily manages temperature; it does not provide controlled fresh-air exchange.
Elite Climate Solutions installs single-room and whole-home heat recovery ventilation in Christchurch. We assess your property, required coverage, available installation space and any existing or planned heat pump ducting before specifying equipment. Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay and Daikin VAM systems remove stale air and introduce filtered outdoor air while recovering useful heat. Contact Elite Climate Solutions to arrange an on-site assessment.
How heat recovery ventilation exchanges air and heat
Heat recovery ventilation extracts stale, moisture-laden air and brings filtered outdoor air inside. The two air streams pass separately through a heat-transfer core. Heat energy from the outgoing air tempers the incoming air without the streams mixing.
This retains useful warmth while providing controlled fresh-air exchange, including overnight without relying on open windows. The system does not create heat or replace a heat pump. Ventilation and temperature control perform different jobs, so both should be considered when planning your property’s heat pump system.
Choosing single-room or whole-home ventilation coverage
Coverage depends on your objective, the area requiring ventilation and the rooms to be served. It is not based on the heat-load calculations used to size a heat pump. A single-room unit may suit one defined area, while a whole-home system can provide controlled air changes across several rooms.
This differs from multi-room air conditioning, which controls room temperatures rather than replacing stale indoor air. Before specifying a system, we assess the property’s layout, age, insulation, glazing, required coverage and available installation routes. Roof space is checked early, particularly in multi-storey homes where restricted routes may make a conventional whole-home layout impractical.
Coordinating ventilation installation with ducted heat pump systems
Ducted heat pumps and whole-home ventilation both require installation space and workable routes. Planning them separately can lead to competing duct runs, blocked access, extra ceiling work or later rework. Because Elite Climate Solutions installs both systems, we can consider ceiling outlets, roof-space use and installation sequencing together.
In an existing home, our assessment accounts for equipment and ducts already in place. For a new build, early coordination with you, your architect and your builder can preserve concealed ceiling or underfloor routes before the structure limits the options. This is especially important when ducted heat pump systems are already installed or planned.
Maintaining filters and long-term ventilation system performance
Incoming-air filters need regular cleaning to maintain airflow and efficient operation. Homeowners can generally clean these filters themselves, and we explain the required care during handover. An annual professional ventilation service is recommended, with the appropriate schedule also reflecting use and system conditions.
Our qualified technicians remain involved from assessment through installation rather than handing the project from a salesperson to a separate team. Trade-qualified HVAC specialists complete the work, with licensed electricians used where required. Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin equipment carries an applicable five-year manufacturer’s warranty, subject to its terms. Separate heat pump servicing and maintenance is available for heating and cooling equipment.
